The Country Mouse Goes To The City, Volume 2

The last time I went to Chicago, I took pictures of my asanas in various parts of the city. This time, I decided to find some yoga on our trip. And let me tell you, it was not difficult. Yoga is everywhere!

First, corpse pose at the Oriental Institute Museum at the University of Chicago:

Next, a lotus flower in the ballroom of our hotel. Is it really a lotus flower? Regardless, it looked beautiful and yogariffic to me.

A monkey at the zoo (disclaimer: I have always heard this pose called monkey in classes, but I know monkey also means a splits-type of pose. This is monkey to me).

Camel, which is a pose I never really saw the resemblance in (can someone help?)

Tree, thanks to a balancing bird:

And my favorite: Lion pose at the zoo, the museum, and the zoo gift shop (yes, that’s my hubby!)

Where have you found yoga?

Namaste,
Jamie

  1. The lion similarities are WONDERFUL!! : )

  2. Wow! Great idea, I really like this post!

  3. What an awesome post – made me smile and smile!!!

  4. I have fallen in love with the ballroom of that hotel. Can you imagine a wedding reception in there? Beautiful!

As far as the camel goes, I have no idea. My only suggestion is that the next time you do it, you sing “My Humps” by Fergie at the same time. Perhaps enlightenment will strike at that moment.

    • I know! Isn’t it great?? I took a bunch of pictures of it. And on the floor above, you can actually open those doors on the balconies and stand up there. It was gorgeous!

  5. What a fun post! Loved it!

  6. What a fun way to bring yoga into the world! I love it. I’ve been thinking of ordering a Yoga for Kids kit to explore more of the fun animal metaphors of asana!

  7. Thanks everyone : ) We had fun in Chicago and the pictures still make me smile!

  8. Camel has always seemed to me one of the more mysterious asana names…the complete opposite, in that sense, of my favorite asana name, downward facing dog, which we can see our furry friends do every morning…though they don’t face downward and their butts stick way back….the only conjecture I can make is that your whole body becomes the hump…or, perhaps, it refers to some kind of Indian camel that looks incredibly different than the Middle Eastern camels we generally think of…
